Over the years Karen has been an active member of the music and community theatre community in Brandon and the Westman area as a music educator, actor and singer. Local performance highlights include singing in Konektis, being in the cast of the plays "Mom's the Word" and "Soldier Up", performing the title role in Dr. Kenneth Nichols' opera "Hilda Blake", and singing in the bands "Reflections" and "Trail Mix". Karen has also performed with Rainbow Stage, Manitoba Opera, the Winnipeg Gilbert and Sullivan Society, Prairie Opera (Saskatoon) and CBC's Hymn Sing.
